Columbus, Ohio
It's Sunday and we are feeling a bit warmer:) We are camped east of Columbus, Ohio, the county name is Licking! On the way here we passed the Popcorn Museum! It was closed (boo hoo!)
We visited the Newark Earthworks which is a 2,000 year old complex that at one time covered approximately four square miles. It is believed to be the largest geometric earthworks ever created. Research confirms that the earthworks enclosures served social, ceremonial, and astronomical functions for their ancient builders, the "Hopewell".
This area also is home for Longaberger Baskets. When you drive on Highway 16 you see this huge basket. The building is a replica of the company's medium market basket, but at 160 times its size. The handles are heated in the winter to keep snow and ice off the glass atrium.http://www.longaberger.com
Ye Olde Mill is the home of Velvet Ice Cream - we couldn't resist! They had a small historical museum and ice cream parlor. Did you know, Central Ohio is Ohio's Ice Cream Capitol!?
