The first interstate highway, linking the eastern seaboard with the western frontier. The Road carried people, livestock, mail and goods, speeding development and communication across the new country. Milestones were set at one-mile intervals.
The John & Annie Glenn Historic Site
John Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth on Feb. 20, 1962, he circled the earth three times in less than five hours. He was born on July 18, 1921, in Cambridge, Ohio but moved to New Concord, Ohio at the age of 2. His wife, Annie, was also from this area. John Glenn later became the state senator.
The Y - Bridge was originally constructed in 1814. The current Y - Bridge is the 5th one and was built in 1984. The first through 3rd bridges were built of wood and were either destroyed by floods or rot. In 1904 the first concrete structure was built. The bridge grabbed the attention of airplane pilots....they relied on landmarks for their bearings.... Amelia Earhart called Zanesville "the most recognizable city in the country"
